New Orleans is a world apart, in many ways its own little city-state, part of the United States but at the same time so different from every other place in this country. Our history, people, architecture, food, music and traditions make New Orleans a great place, warts and all. The land of Mardi Gras, jazz, King Cakes, streetcars, cafe au lait and beignets, muffulettas, neutral grounds, heat, humidity, crawfish, Yats, hurricanes (both the storm and the highly intoxicating drink), the French Quarter, gumbo, and red beans ‘n rice is a great place to visit, or get married in!

Jake and Debra did just that. They wanted a small intimate destination wedding. After scouring the web, Jake and Debra found the perfect place for their wedding, New Orleans. If you’ve ever been down at Maison Duprey in the French Quarter, you know how comforting the area can be. This created a small and intimate destination wedding they will remember forever. Jake and Debra, along with 10 of their closest friends and family, flew all the way from the United Kingdom to partake in this union. Congratulations to Jake & Debra, we hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in New Orleans, and have a safe trip home.

The day was cloudy with a chance of rain. I wasn’t sure how the weather would treat us, but I hoped for the best…
We headed down to the Quarter to meet up with the bride and groom to be, Lan and Minh. When we arrived at Mickey Nolan’s, Lan was just finishing up with her hair and makeup. The original plan was to take a few shots in the Quarter and then head out to my secret location which would add an urban feel to the shoot. Sadly, the wind was too strong at the secret location and I was afraid my bride may get blown away. JK! =P I didn’t want the wind messing with the bride’s hair. In the end we relocated to an open field that I spent 3 hours to find a few days prior.
I remembered having a conversation with Lan a while back on how much she loves sunsets. So I asked if they were willing to have another session so we could capture them with the sunset as the backdrop. She agreed without hesitation. The only issue was that the open field, used earlier in the day, was supposed to be the sunset spot. I decided to bring them to another site. So, 6pm rolled around and Minh and Lan were already on their way when it started to rain. Lan was pretty determined to get her sunset so we went out to see what we could get. The ground was dry enough, but the sunset left much to be desired.
My spirits were broken, I had given up and I had called it a wrap. We were packed and ready to go when, by some miracle, the sun began to peak out from behind the clouds. It beamed across the water and created this beautiful glow in the sky.
Lan and I had an agreement before the shoot: She would bring her smile, and in return I would bring the sunset. I almost came up short on my end of the bargain. Lan, you definitely brought your smile…
In the end, I’m glad the sun poked its head around the clouds to give this bride to be her sunset. See you guys on June 20th!
